Valentino Eid sets: from mock-up to local production

Dear customers, dear partners,

Some projects are just a welcome breath of fresh air. We are delighted to present our collaboration with Valentino Beauty‘s Retail Marketing team. The brand has been developing custom products for Chinese and Middle-Eastern markets for several years now. Lunar New Year, Chinese Valentine’s Day… Whether for bank holidays, religious holidays, or just cultural ones, Valentino Beauty forges close ties with its communities (on Instagram and beyond), celebrating traditions and customs while respecting codes and values.

Kevin Tremel, part of the Valentino Beauty team, told us all about the Eid set’s creation process: “To mark the occasion this year, Andrea Tarella, an Italian artist, drew a stylised Ramadan night lit by fanous, the traditional lanterns. His yellow-gold drawing was the starting point for creating our sets.”
It was at this point that MR Mock-up Lab joined the party. “I work with them because they’re clearly industry leaders in artwork and mock-ups. I trust them, they’ve already experimented with so many things in this field. I know they’ll suggest the best technical solution and work hard on the production layouts, which is crucial not only from a creative perspective, but also for steering local production with the utmost precision.”

MR Artworks started with the artist’s drawing and produced a technical document. We isolated zones to be able to work on the presence of gold and glossy gilding in CMYK colour mixing. Next came test prints with MR Mock-up Labcalibrating and dialling in the perfect amount of sophistication and illumination to bring to the decor.
“We worked on spot colour, CMYK combinations and the ideal ink coverage for maintaining intensity on uncoated paper. We also used diamond-tip embossing, with ridges that provide structure for the Valentino Beauty logo’s volume and the brand’s iconic studs.”

Aside from creating the set, Valentino Beauty wanted to create a project that’s reproducible on a local level. Three markets were concerned: Morocco, South Africa, and the Middle East. “Due to the small quantities, we chose local production, which also avoids transport. We sent off the MR mock-ups and artworks, along with technical specifications with colour refs, the DON’Ts, etc. For the good of the project, we also allowed a bit of leeway in following the mock-up. For example, we chose to add varnish to make sure the colours were protected against friction. Working with experts like MR is a boon for nailing down the project. On top of that, they’re available and respond quickly. Collaborations are always enjoyable, with no ugly surprises.”

We feel the same way. We would like to sincerely thank Kevin for his trust, as well as his daily professionalism.

Let’s celebrate!
