Dear customers, dear partners,
After the 2024 launch of Bottega Veneta’s Exclusive Collection, Kering Beauté confirmed its “One House” approach, creating Montebello in a fashion and fragrance duet led by Junior Brand Manager Chloé Villedieu.
“At Bottega Veneta, every creation in the exclusive fragrance collection is a tribute to Venetian elegance. Montebello is a splash of freshness and elegance – a generous Eau de Toilette for indulging in the dolce vita on the Riviera. The packaging combines minimalist simplicity for the bottle and the sophistication of intrecciato – the House’s signature pattern – for the case, all in a highly sustainable plastic-free design.” And that’s why Chloé drew MR into the dance.
Here at MR, we applied our own “One House” formula to this project, with bespoke design assistance by MR MOCK-UP LAB and the exclusive, confidential production of a thousand pieces by MR FACTORY. We loved it! We got to fine-tune our technical approach, carry out creative and reactive development, and produce the boxes in industrial craftsmanship mode 😉
“I’ve known MR since early on in my career. I work with them on my case mock-ups. They’re very technical and flexible, always offering great problem-solving advice while meeting deadlines, which are invariably very tight. No procrastinators here. We know how to work very efficiently without ever sacrificing quality. They work “back to front.” They challenge the methods needed to achieve the objective, even if it means adjusting the initial plan. It’s very pleasant and easy, we work hand in hand.”
On MR MOCK-UP LAB’s side of things, the challenge was clear: translate the House’s intrecciato braiding pattern into precise, textured embossing that stayed true to the original leatherwork. However, we needed an industrial approach to detail so that later production could go flawlessly. We had to calibrate and test reliefs until we got the feel of leather while remaining faithful to the fashion design. It required reviewing the embossing levels, modifying our tools, adjusting the pressure on this finely-grained, hyper-fragile paper, and creating a very subtle effect that was soft, vivid, very visible, and not likely to tear. It needed secondary modifications, without changing the original file.
Finding the perfect shade – the “right” light gray that was fresh and translucent (but ready to roll out) – required a meticulous, arduous, but invigorating CAM session!
Whether applied “simply” or chiseled with a diamond-tip bit, the glossy black hot stamping process on this unpredictable Tokyo paper presented us with a real challenge.
When it was MR FACTORY’s turn to launch production, there were no surprises.
Our strength lies in being able to industrialize the exception to the rule, even in very small batches.
Digital printing down to the unit, specific pre-validated tools, strict calibration on the effects of material and shade: each case is produced to the same exacting standards as a large run and gives us a perfectly homogeneous result. “To do this, we defined color and relief triptychs. We simply made CAMs. It’s very important for me to have a partner who understands the fashion world’s high quality standards and naturally plans for them. We can focus on what’s important: the sensory story told by the packaging.”
A big thank you to Chloé for their trust and their newest challenges. We loved getting to combine our mock-up and production expertise on the same project. Doing it to this caliber of quality is an excellent demonstration of our skill-sets.
See you soon for even more fresh ideas (with or without a splash)!
