GUERLAIN’s extraordinary Christmas

Are we all up to date on our wishlists and Christmas shopping? Are we keeping track of our holiday products’ sell-ins and sell-outs? In our own way, we’re also taking part in this ritual by telling you about a Xmas collaboration blending advanced techniques with creativity.

This festive season, we’re spotlighting MR MOCK-UP LAB’s partnership with Guerlain. Sensitive and committed to the artistic collaborations that have forged its heritage, Guerlain has teamed up this year with French artist Shourouk Rhaiem, giving her carte blanche to embellish the House’s iconic creations with her sparkling, multicolored crystals. Her variations on the Christmas gift sets are adorned with Shalimar’s tones of blue and sparkling effects.

This is part of a ritual for MR MOCK-UP LAB, which regularly works with Guerlain to create its mock-ups and guide its creative decisions.

“I encountered MR when I first arrived at Guerlain. They’re a trusted partner whom I got to know over the course of our work together. Industrial mock-ups were a new concept to me – prior to this, I had worked on aesthetic mock-ups with no real reproducibility when it came to industrial production, and no ability to test out different decoration techniques in real life,” says Pauline Proux, Group manager for Guerlain. “We work on extremely precise technical documents, testing out variations on decoration treatments and committing to a series of mock-up designs. This allows us to align artistic vision with feasibility during weekly meetings with top management.”

MR MOCK-UP LAB rushes to order tools, hot stamping foils, uncoated paper, and more, to be ready for every possible scenario. When it comes to printing and applying, every movement is of the utmost precision – there’s no room for error and no time to waste. This edition sees two rounds of hot marking, stamping, embossing, color, and glitter – all working hand in hand to give life to the extraordinary, joyful and unusual aesthetic dreamed up by the brand and the artist.

Once this master mock-up goes through every round of approval, the different players in production will create a panoply of gifts and tools based on “L’ART D’OFFRIR,” i.e., the art of gifting.

“To do this, we need to have explored our options, aligned our perspectives, and pushed technical feasibility to its limits to make sure even the smallest details have the right aesthetic,” explains Pauline. “MR is a reliable, responsive, and flexible partner. They know we need to meet exacting deadlines. I know that tonight, for example, I’ll have my mock-ups for tomorrow morning’s meeting. Same thing next week and the week after. They know our habits and requirements. I can count on them.”
